On 11 September 2025, the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce And Industry (MICCI) Southern Region had the privilege of welcoming a delegation of members from the University of London Alumni (Singapore) in conjunction with the Beyond Borders Symposium in Malaysia 2025.
The visit began with an introduction session to provide a better understanding of the University of London Alumni, their background, and their objectives. The delegation’s visit was aimed at getting to know more about MICCI – it’s role, services, and contributions to the business community – and at the same time to gain a deeper understanding of Malaysia’s economic and investment environment.
During the visit, MICCI Southern Region’s Chairman, Mr. Lee Ting Kiat delivered a presentation titled “Foreign Direct Investments in JSSEZ – MICCI’s Perspective”. He provided an overview of the Johor – Singapore Special Economic Zone (JSSEZ), tracing its evolvement since the launch of Iskandar Malaysia in 2006 and highlighting its diversification of opportunities for both foreign and domestic investors. The Chairman also presented statistics on foreign direct investment inflows into Malaysia over the past three years, citing data from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA). He further shared insights on considerations given to both soft and hard infrastructure in addressing challenges, opportunities for supporting industries and related professionals, as well incentives offered by the government and statutory bodies to encourage greater participation in the zone.
The presentation saw active engagement through lively question-and-answer, allowing the delegation to seek clarifications, share perspectives, and exchange views directly with the Chairman and EXCO members.
Hosting the event were the Chairman – Mr. Lee Ting Kiat, Vice Chairman – Mr. Benedict Francis, EXCO Members – Mr. Andrew Yong Woon Sing and Mr. Joe Pua Ze Sheng and Branch Manager, Ms. Olivia.
MICCI was delighted to host the delegation and looks forward to continued engagement with the University of London Alumni community.
