MICCI applaud the government with its rakyat centric Short Term Economic Recovery Plan. Concentration on disposable income for the rakyat via extension of wage subsidies, SME grants, E-commerce, ICT, property sector and automobile sectors. However, the rakyat is still apprehensive about the future. He recommends that instead of emphasis on populist policies in the economic recovery, the government should enable an environment, even if it is for a medium term window that is conducive and compelling for foreign investment, which in turn provides the confidence for domestic direct investment.

The rakyat and businesses don’t need more illusionary cash handouts and loans, they need an economic environment for them to rejuvenate and thrive. That’s sustainability.
