MICCI Northern 188th Anniversary Gala Dinner
MICCI Northern celebrated its chamber’s 188th Anniversary with an exclusive Gala Dinner held at Eastern & Oriental Hotel on 31 October 2025, marking nearly two centuries of dedicated service in supporting trade, investment and industrial progress in the Northern region.
The milestone celebration was graced by the Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Mr Chow Kon Yeow, who joined esteemed guests comprising industry leaders, foreign missions and MICCI members in honouring the Chamber’s longstanding role as the nation’s oldest chamber, established since 1837.
In his address, YAB Mr Chow Kon Yeow congratulated MICCI on achieving its remarkable 188-year milestone and commended the Chamber for its longstanding contributions toward nation-building and industrial advancement.
He highlighted Penang’s transformation from a traditional port economy into a global manufacturing powerhouse, contributing RM352 billion in exports between January and August 2025, accounting for over a quarter of Malaysia’s total exports, with RM158 billion generated by the Electrical and Electronics (E&E) sector alone. YAB Mr Chow Kon Yeow also outlined key infrastructure projects, including the Bandar Baru Ayer Itam–Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Bypass (Package 2) and the upcoming Penang International Logistics Aeropark (PILA), both of which will further elevate Penang’s position as Southeast Asia’s leading logistics and manufacturing hub.
Anchored by the theme “Timeless Legacy: 188 Years of Excellence,” the gala dinner embodied MICCI’s rich heritage and its evolving role in navigating Malaysia’s economic transformation. The evening culminated in captivating performances, including an elegant jewellery showcase by Amee Philips Sdn Bhd, a soulful jazz band, a witty stand-up comedy act by Harith Iskander and exciting lucky draw sessions, creating a memorable evening for all in attendance.
In his address, the Branch Chairman of MICCI Northern, Dato’ Brian Tan Guan Hooi expressed gratitude to members and partners for their continued trust and support towards MICCI over the decades. He also paid tribute to Dato’ Seri Nazir Ariff, the longest-serving Branch Chairman, who dedicated 25 years of service and was present at the gala dinner.
“What is remarkable is not just the Chamber’s achievements, but its spirit of collaboration. For nearly two centuries, MICCI has nurtured mutual trust and partnership between businesses and government, creating an environment where dialogue leads to progress, and partnership leads to prosperity,” he said.
Beyond the celebrations, MICCI Northern Branch reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to fostering a business-friendly ecosystem and strengthening public–private collaboration across Penang, Kedah and Perlis.
