If Children Could Tell Us What They Need at the Start of the Year (Jan 2026)

By marcom@micci.com January 12, 2026
Dear WhyteHouse Parents,
As we step into a new year, many conversations naturally turn toward routines, expectation, and helping children “settle in” to what lies ahead.
But before children adjust to new rules, new classes, or new expectations, they’re figuring out these changes that are happening around them.
This month’s infographic takes a closer look at what the start of a new year can feel like from a child’s perspective. It explores how children experience shifts in expectations, limits, and adults’ responses during times of transition.
This is Part 1 of a two-part series. In the infographic next month, we will build on these reflections by exploring how different parenting approaches respond to these moments of transition, and what children may be learning from them along the way.
We would like to thank you for your continued trust and support over the past year. It has been a privilege to walk alongside you and your children, and we look forward to another year of learning, reflection, and meaningful conversations ahead. We wish you and your family a year filled with growth, connection, and many good moments.
