On 18th April 2022, MICCI Sabah has called on Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Bapak Rafail Walangitan.

During the discussion, Consul General Bapak Rafail briefed the MICCI Sabah delegation that there are more than 167,000 Indonesian in Sabah due to the proximity of Indonesia and Sabah. Whilst with the moving of their new capital city from Jakarta to Nusantara in East Kalimantan would open up many trade and investment opportunities for both Malaysian and Indonesian business communities. Tapping on the fast-growing population in the BIMP-EAGA region (70mil people), establishing its capital city with a comprehensive 23-year plan, in East Kalimantan, deemed relevant and timely.
