Illicit trade and its corresponding loss in revenue to the country’s treasury in these challenging times is more pronounced. As such revenues are better served in rejuvenating the country’s economy and provide much needed cash to the rakyat.

To stem this, committed multi-agency enforcement, tamper-proof detection equipment, intelligent digital systems and public education would be the order of the day.
Increasing taxes on cigarettes and alcohol will only be diverted to the black market and not to the treasury.
