MATRADE - MALAYSIA’S TRADE PERFORMANCE 2024

 

On 27th January 2025, MICCI had the privilege of attending the special event at MATRADE Centre, where MATRADE presented Malaysia’s Trade Performance 2024, which reached a total trade value of RM2.88 trillion, reflecting a 9.2% increase year-on-year. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Malaysia’s trade has exceeded the RM2 trillion threshold.

The event was graced by YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI); Chairman Dato’ Sri Reezal Merican; and CEO YB Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, who provided insights into the growth and opportunities in Malaysia’s trade landscape. The evening was filled with valuable discussions on the performance of Malaysia’s key sectors and the nation’s position in the global market.

Exports, in particular, surpassed RM1.51 trillion, marking a 5.7% increase and exceeding 87.2% of the target set for 2025 under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12), with Malaysia’s exports now having exceeded RM1 trillion for the fourth consecutive year.

Imports also rose by 13.2%, reaching RM1.37 trillion, contributing to a trade surplus of RM138.88 billion, marking the 27th consecutive year of surplus since 1998.

The event concluded with a traditional Chinese New Year Lou Sang, bringing together key stakeholders in a festive moment to celebrate growth and prosperity.
