DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS W.P. KUALA LUMPUR, MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCES COURTESY VISIT TO MICCI

On 25th November 2024, MICCI had the privilege of hosting Mr. John Mark, Senior Assistant Director of the Department of Industrial Relations W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Ministry of Human Resources, for a courtesy visit with MICCI members. This engagement provided a great opportunity for open and productive discussions about Malaysia’s workforce and the key issues impacting industrial relations.

The meeting brought together a diverse group of professionals from across various sectors, with MICCI members represented by Mr. Michel Van Crombrugge, Vice President of MICCI, and Mr. Jean-Francois Chaveriat, Perak Branch Chairman, along with representatives from the Digital Economy Group, Human Capital and Education Council, and key industry players. Both physically and virtually participants contributed to the dialogue, underscoring the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in addressing Malaysia’s workforce challenges.

During the session, MICCI members shared their insights on how the government and industries can collaborate more effectively to address challenges in today’s fast-evolving workforce and business landscape. MICCI members also presented their perspectives on the future direction of Malaysia, with shared vision for ensuring businesses and workers thrive in the coming years.

One key point of discussion was finding the right balance between workplace flexibility and protection of employees’ rights. It was clear that updating labor laws to reflect new working models, such as remote work and gig-based employment, is essential for creating a fair and sustainable work environment. Additionally, there was a strong emphasis on creating policies that support both businesses and workers, with the understanding that a healthy business environment is key to long-term economic growth.

As the meeting concluded, there was a strong sense of commitment to continue the conversation and work together on solutions that will benefit both the workforce and the business community. MICCI looks forward to collaborating with the Department of Industrial Relations and other partners to shape a positive future for Malaysia’s industries and workforce.
