On 17th August 2023, MICCI engaged in a courtesy visit with YB Tuan V. Sivakumar, the Minister of Human Resources of Malaysia (MOHR).

The delegation was led by Mr. Shaun Edward Cheah, our Executive Director, along with Mr. Dharmen Sivalingam, the Managing Partner of Dharmen Sivalingam & Partners and MICCI Human Capital and Education Council Chairman. Additionally, the delegation also included MICCI members from Shopee, Lazada, Lalamove, Goget, Foodpanda, Grab and Carsome.

During the courtesy visit, several important matters were raised and discussed as below:

1. Gig platforms seek MOHR’s clarification on gig worker definition.
2. P-Hailing platforms address youth education after SPM.
3. Cases not vetted before Industrial Court referral, leading to frivolous cases.
4. Lengthy process in the Industrial Court system.
5. Rising employment costs.
6. S42A of Employment Act 1955.
7. Talent shortage for supporting industries.
8. Enhancing international student enrolment in Malaysian higher education. Current intake below the targeted 250k.
