MICCI–MIA Engagement Session on Latest Regulatory Developments in Audit and  Sustainability Reporting  

On 6 February 2026, the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) hosted an engagement session with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) to exchange perspectives on key developments impacting the business community, particularly in the areas of audit exemption, alternative assurance options for companies exempted from audit, and emerging sustainability disclosure expectations.  

The session covered updates to audit exemption thresholds and related compliance considerations, while reaffirming the importance of maintaining sound financial governance even where companies may qualify for audit exemption. MIA also shared insights on alternative assurance options, including review and compilation engagements as practical approaches to supporting reliable financial reporting. In addition, MIA showcased the industry-wide electronic bank confirmation platform, eConfirm.my, which has improved audit efficiency and streamlined audit completion, as well as highlighted evolving sustainability reporting requirements and their implications for companies across supply chains. 

Representing MIA were Mr. Ahmad Syahazan Yaacob, Vice President of MIA and Chair of the Small and Medium Practices Committee, together with Mr. Simon Tay Pit Eu, Ms. Jenny Chua Yu Chin, and Ms. Nadiah Mohammad. MICCI was represented by Mr. Lee Han Ling, Executive Director, together with Mr. Leslie Tan, Ms. Eldrina, Ms. Fatin Nur Lyana, and Mr. Azri Azlan.
