MICCI Southern Extends Hand Of Cooperation To Singapore Business Entities

The Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Southern Region) (MICCI South) embarked on a landmark initiative by paying a courtesy visit to several business counterparts in Singapore, namely the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce (SICC), Enterprise Singapore (ESG), Economic Development Board (EDB) and Singapore Business Federation (SBF) on 24 January 2024.
The meetings, which were held at the respective counterparts’ offices in Singapore, marked a significant step towards fostering closer relationship and collaboration between the influential Malaysian business chamber with the Singapore entities. According to Mr. Lee Ting Kiat, the Chairman of the MICCI South, the visit was very timely as both countries have opened up their borders since 1 April 2022 after the Covid-19 pandemic, and there are various opportunities for businesses arising from the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) which was witnessed by the Prime Ministers of Malaysia and Singapore on 11 January 2024.
As a business chamber of international standing, MICCI South is well-positioned to assist and facilitate the business communities, particularly from Singapore who intend to set up or expand their business in Malaysia. Such assistance and facilitation are possible given the fact that MICCI South has a wide reach of members from different capabilities and background, coupled with its constant engagement with the governmental and statutory bodies in providing feedback and voicing out the aspirations of the business communities at large.
During the visit, representatives from the entities engaged in active presentations and dialogues aimed at identifying avenues for mutual growth and development. The discussions cemented a common understanding that both parties will assist their members and businesses through various business matching, knowledge sharing forums, dialogues, networking and other meaningful events, aimed to create a conducive platform for businesses in Johor and Singapore.
Through these events, it is hoped that the business communities can explore opportunities presented before them arising from the JS-SEZ , leverage on each other’s strengths with emphasis on synergizing their businesses and overcome any challenges collectively. The visit is also aimed to foster close collaboration and cooperation between MICCI South from Johor, Malaysia and SICC, ESG, EDB and SBF from Singapore, which in turn will open doors for businesses to access an expanded network and collaborative ventures.
